Meet Gaz.
Electrician. Problem solver. Tech geek. Creator. And occasionally, someone who probably has too many projects on the go.
I've been working in the electrical industry for over 20 years, but I'm still learning, still creating and still looking for better ways to do things.
A Slightly Unexpected Career
Back in 2004, I was a little lost about what I wanted to do with my life. I was interested in computers, music, motorbikes and scooters, but at the time I was working in HR for a mail company.
My Dad and brother were running R. Goodship Ltd in Milton Keynes, a well-established electrical company. I joined them, trained, went to college and eventually qualified and passed my AM2.
Since then I've worked alongside some extremely experienced electricians, including my Dad, who has over 50 years in the trade, and my brother, with over 30 years.
What started as a change of direction in 2004 turned into more than 20 years in the electrical industry.
From Goodship To GDSP
The business has changed over the years, but the way I work hasn't.
Learning The Trade
I spent years training, learning and working alongside experienced electricians while building the foundations of my career.
Building Something Of My Own
When R. Goodship changed direction, I worked with former colleagues to create Goodship Electrical Solutions, which we ran for several years.
Back To Being Me
GDSP came from Goodship, but the business is now completely mine. I've built it around personal service, experience and doing things properly.
Today I work independently, supporting homeowners, local builders and contractors across Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. I've barely needed to advertise for years. Word of mouth and repeat customers have kept me busy.
It's Not Just About The Electrics.
Experience makes the electrical work easier. The real skill is knowing what to do with that experience.
I Find Solutions
After more than 20 years in the trade, I can usually find a way to solve a problem. And quite often I can come up with an option the customer hadn't even considered.
I Think Ahead
Socket positions, lighting, heating, data, TVs, future technology and how the space will actually be used all matter when planning electrical work.
I Work With Builders
I understand that other trades have schedules to keep. I work closely with local builders and contractors and pride myself on being on time and keeping projects moving.
Technology Doesn't Scare Me
I'm a bit of a geek. Computers, smart systems, data, 3D printing and technology have always been part of my life, which helps when electrical work needs to connect with modern technology.
The result? Electrical work that's not just installed correctly, but actually makes sense for the way you live, work or use the space.
I'm A Little Bit Geeky.
Electrical work is my job, but creating, learning and figuring out how things work has always been a big part of who I am.
🖥️ Tech & Computers
I've always been interested in technology and enjoy understanding how systems work, not just plugging them in.
🏎️ Cars & Bikes
Motorbikes, scooters and cars have been a huge interest over the years. These days that also includes car detailing.
🖨️ Making Things
I've built businesses around 3D printing, vinyl graphics and other projects. If I can make something rather than buy it, I'll probably have a go.
🏀 Basketball
A big basketball fan, particularly MK Breakers and the Phoenix Suns.
🐟 Always Another Hobby
From YouTube projects to fishkeeping, there always seems to be something new I'm learning about.
🧠 Still Learning
I spend my evenings learning, experimenting and working on new ideas. Apparently 20+ years in the trade wasn't enough.
I like understanding things, building things and finding better ways to do things. That's probably why electrical work suits me so well.
Why People Come Back.
I've never been particularly interested in being the biggest electrical company. I prefer doing a great job and building relationships that last.
Word Of Mouth
I've barely advertised for over five years. Most of my work comes through previous customers, recommendations, local builders and contractors.
On Time. On Budget.
I understand how frustrating delays can be, particularly when other trades are waiting. I work hard to stick to agreed schedules and budgets.
After The Job
Finishing the installation isn't the end of the relationship. I take pride in good after-service and will often check back with previous customers to make sure everything is still working as it should.
"Do the job properly, look after people and they'll remember you."
