House Rewiring in Milton Keynes
Thinking about rewiring your home? Before replacing a single cable, I'll assess the existing installation, understand how you use your home and look at what your electrical requirements are likely to be in the future.
Is Your Home Ready for Today's Electrical Demands?
Electrical demand has changed dramatically over the years. A house that was perfectly adequate when it was built may now be expected to power far more equipment than the original electrical installation was designed to handle.
When I assess a property for rewiring, I don't just look at the age of the cables. I'll consider how you actually use your home and what you are likely to need in the future.
That could mean looking at your existing supply, the condition of the wiring and the additional demand created by modern appliances and electrical equipment.
A rewire is an opportunity to prepare your home for the way you live today, not simply replace what was installed decades ago.
Things We May Need To Consider
- Electric vehicle chargers
- Induction hobs
- Powerful ovens
- Hot tubs
- Additional kitchen appliances
- Home offices & technology
- Future electrical requirements
What I Assess Before a Rewire
Every property is different, so I don't believe in simply quoting for a rewire based on the number of bedrooms. I'll fully assess the existing installation and discuss your requirements before recommending the best way forward.
Existing Wiring
I'll assess the age, condition and type of existing wiring, along with any visible issues or areas that may require particular attention.
Your Electrical Supply
The mains supply and existing electrical installation need to be considered alongside the demands the property is expected to place on them.
How You Use Your Home
I'll talk through how you currently use the property and what you expect to add, from kitchen appliances and home technology to EV charging and outdoor equipment.
What You'll Need in Future
A rewire is a major opportunity to prepare your home for future electrical requirements rather than finding yourself short of capacity or outlets later.
The aim isn't simply to replace old wiring. It's to create an electrical installation that works properly for your home now and for years to come.
Preparation Makes a Huge Difference
The more accessible the property is, the faster and more efficiently the work can be completed.
Living Through a Rewire
Yes, a house can be rewired while it is full of furniture and you're still living in it. But there's an important trade-off: the more furniture and belongings we have to work around, the longer the job takes and the more difficult the work becomes.
Where possible, I recommend clearing the areas we're working in before the rewire begins. This gives us much better access to floors, walls and existing wiring, allowing the work to be completed much faster and more efficiently.
I'll always work with you to find the most practical way to complete the rewire, taking your circumstances and the property itself into account.
Our goal: get the electrical work completed efficiently, minimise unnecessary disruption and get your home ready for the next stage as quickly as possible.
Ready for the Next Stage
A rewire can leave a lot of holes and chases behind. Once the electrical installation is complete, I can bond the chases ready for the next stage of the work.
This means the holes are filled and prepared so that your plasterer can come straight in and carry out the final making-good and plastering.
It's a small part of the overall job, but it helps keep the project moving and means you're not left with open chases waiting for the next trade to start.
Chases Bonded & Ready for Plastering
GDSP Electrical fills and bonds the electrical chases ready for your plasterer. Final plastering and making good is then completed by your chosen plasterer or builder.
Please note: bonding the chases is preparation for plastering. It does not include the final plastering or cosmetic making-good.
